I hate eating fish!! Nope, "shockingly" I am not a Bengali who craves for them during every meal of the day. Even though i consider myself as a pretty brave gastronomic adventurer, fishes are something I have dreaded for my entire life.
Not surprisingly, any visit to a relative's place in the city ( Kolkata ) brings out my old nemesis right on my platter. Recently during my visit to Kolkata, my aunts decided to have dinner together on 31st Dec . Each of them were supposed to prepare a dish and bring it. I deduced, of all three aunts excluding the one at who's house I was staying, at least one will bring something not remotely resembling a fish. But that was not supposed to be. On the new years eve as the days of the year came to an end, so did my luck. What was for dinner is as follows: fish curry, spicy fish and roasted fish. Although considered gourmet dishes in Kolkata fit for the occasion, my dinner was more like a lost duel. I tried to refuse as much as possible without being impolite but aunts will be aunts. They were too busy discussing how skinny I am and how I should eat more protein, vitamins, etc(conveniently again fish) to even sympathize on my anguish. And thats how i ended my year.
As for the rest of the five days of my stay my disappointed aunts looked down upon me for being the "aajob chele"(weird boy) .While I dug out old friends staying in the city to go out for lunch to save myself from another piece of those slimy little creatures.
